I found the beautiful view in Bela Vista (where I am staying). I had been wondering where it was...

More and more I realise that drawing is often more about the details you leave out than those you include. The best drawings leave space for you to work out the information, rather than it being transcribed totally and literally. My favourite drawings of this period are definately those that balance unprescribed space with hints of specifics.

Tomorrow I take a very long bus from Porto Seguro to Sao Paulo (26 hours) so no cities will settle for a while. I may go to the coast in Sao Paulo as the constant rain here has hampered my construction a little. I am very looking forward to getting back inside my sketchbooks though so we will see. I wonder if my time in Bahia has made me lose my ´city eyes´and if everything will appear as new as it did when I first landed...

Key note buildings

I have started to introduce new shapes into my cityscapes. Alongside the four stock architectypal units, I have begun to use everyday packaging to create distinctive buildings which break up the uniformity of my horizons.

The use of recognisably mass produced items adds to the tension between the natural temporal materiality of the sand and the idea of permanent human-centric values as represented by architecture and the ethic of the city.
